In front of the largest crowd of the season at Rhodes Field House, the Harding Lady Bisons earned the top seed in the Gulf South Conference volleyball tournament Tuesday night with an impressive three-game sweep of the Henderson State Lady Reddies. Game scores were 30-12, 30-24 and 30-22.
Harding (24-8, 10-1) will host the conference tournament Nov. 9-10. The winner of the GSC Tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA II National Tournament. The Lady Bisons’ likely first-round opponent will be West Georgia, the fourth seed from the East Division.
Sophomore Manuela Nesheva, the GSC’s kills leader, had a team-high 21 kills to lead Harding. Ten of those kills came in game two, the only game Henderson State had a legitimate chance of winning. Junior setter Leah Tepe had a solid game for Harding, collecting 47 assists and eight digs. Senior libero Meredith Rosenbaum had 24 digs. Harding improved to 71-4 in GSC matches since 2002.
“We’re playing well right now,” Harding head coach Keith Giboney said. “Hopefully we can take that momentum into the tournament. Playing at home in front of our people is going to be big for us.”
